COVID 19 – Small Business Support

Keating Dental Lab encourages dental practice to learn more about loans and grants available through the U.S. Small Business Administration

The Paycheck Protection Program

Keating Dental Lab recommends the following steps to get started:

  1. Review the application template.  It is two pages and should not take long to complete.  Other than providing average monthly payroll for the past 12 months, the applicant must simply answer yes/no questions and initial certification statements.
  2. Contact local lenders or financial institutions to determine whether they are participating lenders. Right now, there is not a central clearinghouse of participating lenders.
  3. File the application.

How quickly will I receive funds? There is no timeline in the CARES Act. We know that the government is committed to expediting relief to individuals and businesses; we also expect delays given the unprecedented scale of the COVID-19 crisis.

Confusion continues to abound over how the PPP loans relate to the SBA’s two long-standing Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program and the new Paycheck Protection Program. Dentists can apply for both programs.  AGD advises members to consult with their accountants, attorneys and financial advisors to develop the best strategy for their practice.

Economic Injury Disaster Loan

SBA EIDL program is for businesses in SBA-designated natural disaster areas. The SBA declared that the COVID-19 pandemic is a natural disaster impacting all 50 states and the five territories.

  • Timing
The covered period of eligibility for applying for an EIDL is now through Dec. 31, 2020.
  • Application Process
Apply directly through the SBA website. There are specific tax and SBA financial disclosure forms required. Loans are issued by SBA approved lenders on a case-by-case basis based on disclosures and credit history.
  • NEW: Emergency Advance
The CARES Act provides for a $10,000 emergency advance (within three days of applying) issued by the SBA, while the EIDL application is pending. The applicant will receive the advance whether or not a loan is approved. This advance is not expected to be repaid.
