iTero®Digital Intraoral Scanner

The iTero® Intraoral Scanners

The iTero® intraoral scanner is an advanced scanning system used to digitally capture and store accurate three-dimensional images of the inside of a patient’s mouth. This type of scanner is a medical device that captures exact replicas of a patient’s teeth, gums, and other oral structures during exams and procedures.

iTero® Digital Intraoral Scanner Overview

The iTero® intraoral scanner helps improve impression accuracy and patient experiences and perfectly integrates with Keating Dental Lab’s workflow. Powder-free operation reduces scanning times while making for a patient-friendly scanning experience.

The scanner uses an intraoral camera and light to create highly detailed, 3D images which can be manipulated and used to detect and diagnose oral health issues.

Additionally, the digitized images can be shared with other clinicians, used for laboratory purposes, and used to design and fabricate dental restorations and orthodontic appliances.

Because the iTero® outputs open architecture STL files, your scans are ready to upload directly to our lab for our CAD/CAM technicians to design and fabricate a modeless restoration with the precision of completely digital fabrication.

Frequent Question about iTero® intraoral scanners

How do you add labs to iTero?

To add labs to iTero, you must call them at the number 1-800-577-8767 and have them add our lab for you by giving them our ID.

How do I send an iTero scan to the dental lab?

  1. Select “Find a Laboratory” on your iTero scanner.
  2. Connect with Keating Dental Lab by the company ID we provided.
  3. Then, whenever you use the scan, select “Keating Dental Lab” on your scanner to send the files.

Can an iTero scanner be used for crowns?

Yes, the iTero scanner can be used for making crowns. Once the 3D image of the tooth has been scanned, the image data can be sent to a Keating to fabricate a crown. We will create a 3D model of the crown and then either use a milling machine to make it directly from the model or cast it from a metal or ceramic material. The crown can then be sent back to you for placement on the patient’s tooth.

What are open architecture STL files?

An open architecture STL file is a computer-aided design (CAD) file format used to store and copy 3D printable models. The file format was created by 3D Systems Corporation in the 1980s and has become widely adopted in the 3D printing industry.

STL files contain 3D model data represented as a series of connected triangles, which can be manipulated using CAD software such as SolidWorks or Autodesk AutoCAD. STL files are widely used for 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and CAD/CAM applications.
